Restoration of eel upstream migration and eel ladder in France

Abstract

The degradation of eel upstream migration way was forget for a long time in France. Many traditional fish way are not adapted for eel. Traditional fishway are often characterized by their poor efficiency for eel. In France, the first specific eel ladder were built in1985. Since
this step many study permit to built many kind of eel ladder adapted with various configuration of migratory barrier.
- For the old mill dam’s: rustic systems
- For the estuary’s dams: Estuary’s eel ladder
- For the mobile sluice dams: eel crawling gutters
- For the large pounds: eel ladders and Eel trap.
- Special adaptation were also adapted to equip different kind of fish ladder
Today these equipment are often used to study the migration, to monitor the recruitment like indicator of the eel stock.
